Your key to porting: The NIP
To transfer your number, you need a NIP (Número de Identificación Personal) which is a 4 digit code that authorizes the switch. Your NIP is valid for 5 calendar days, so use it quickly!
Get your NIP. There is 3 simple ways you can choose from:
Text the word "NIP" to 051:
From the phone you want to port, text NIP to 051.
You'll instantly receive your 4-digit NIP via text.
Call 051:
Dial 051 from the number you wish to port.
Follow the automated instructions to get your NIP.
Call your current provider:
Contact your current phone company's customer service.
Ask them for your NIP, explaining you want to port your number out.
Ready to Port?
Once you have your NIP (and before those 5 days are up!):
Get in contact with your new carrier: Go to a store or their website (e.g., Telcel, AT&T, Movistar).
Provide info: You'll need your NIP, official ID (INE/passport), and the phone number you want to keep.
They will handle the rest! Your new carrier will manage the porting process. Number porting typically takes 24-48 business hours to complete.
