Your key to porting: The NIP

To transfer your number, you need a NIP (Número de Identificación Personal) which is a 4 digit code that authorizes the switch. Your NIP is valid for 5 calendar days, so use it quickly!

Get your NIP. There is 3 simple ways you can choose from:

  1. Text the word "NIP" to 051:

    • From the phone you want to port, text NIP to 051.

    • You'll instantly receive your 4-digit NIP via text.

  2. Call 051:

    • Dial 051 from the number you wish to port.

    • Follow the automated instructions to get your NIP.

  3. Call your current provider:

    • Contact your current phone company's customer service.

    • Ask them for your NIP, explaining you want to port your number out.

Ready to Port?

Once you have your NIP (and before those 5 days are up!):

  1. Get in contact with your new carrier: Go to a store or their website (e.g., Telcel, AT&T, Movistar).

  2. Provide info: You'll need your NIP, official ID (INE/passport), and the phone number you want to keep.

  3. They will handle the rest! Your new carrier will manage the porting process. Number porting typically takes 24-48 business hours to complete.
